FunkyForty Review – Maserati Quattroporte

Hi Everyone,

It’s at this point I’m finally going to confess to having a secret passion for sports cars. I even have my very own car helmet for race courses…shhh, don’t tell anyone. My hubby is even more obsessed, so usually I try to keep my  thoughts on the back burner. With this in mind you can imagine how excited we both were to be testing the Maserati Quattroporte for two days.

FunkyForty Review – Maserati Quattroporte

Exterior

With an obvious sexy Italian touch you have to admit there is something special about the shape and design of the Quattroporte.

At 5.26 meters long, there’s certainly plenty of leg room even in the rear. Used to having to fold myself into my own little car it was lovely sliding into a mass of leather luxury that somewhat resembled comforts of home.

Driving

The name Quattroporte, “4 doors” in English, maybe the Italians think we can’t count – smile. The Quattroporte Grandsport S Q4 version we were driving has an optional 4-wheel drive. Super handy during Winter months. Despite it’s size the electro-hydraulic steering made it super easy to manoeuvre.

A top driving speed of 283km/h  and 0 – 100km in 4.9 seconds. Quite amazing for it’s size given that it’s only 0.5 seconds slower than the new Porsche Carrera (substantially smaller).

The V6-31 twin turbo petrol engines of the Quattroporte are manually assembled in the Ferrari factory in Maranello. This was the explanation my hubby gave me for the raunchy sound and force, (even girls can like torque).

A personal favourite feature of mine was the little triangle on the outer mirrors which lights up when there’s something in your blind spot! (Oops – I have just been told many cars can have this feature today).

We both fell in love with the Apple CarPlay. At least it was a system I could easily cope with – that’s saying a lot as I can’t even successfully turn on the TV at home.

Best of all after a full days driving I stepped out of the car feeling fresh as a daisy, no back ache nothing!

The Tour

Switzerland is so beautiful, perfect for car touring with all it’s fabulous mountain passes so here you have a map of the two day tour we took:

Starting in Zurich with our over-nite stop at Schloss Schauenstein – a boutique restaurant and hotel with 3 Michelin stars.

Next day the Oberalp Pass followed the cute town of Andermatt for lunch. Have you seen my previous post about the Chedi in Andermatt? A hotel that NEEDS to be on everyone’s bucket list.

A little James Bond feeling around Realp and then the Furka Pass – make sure to see the ice cave at the top. Next the Grimsel Pass.

At the bottom of the last pass – the Brünig Pass, before hitting the motorway back to Zurich.

Verdict:

Base price CHF 133.5k. The overall driving dynamic of the Maserati Quattroporte was spectacular for a car that weights 1.9 tons.

Both hubby and I have concluded that it really is:

“an Italian limo that’s the nearest thing you can get to a four-door Ferrari”  as quoted by Top Gear!
