24 Hours Ticino

Hi Everyone,

One of the most wonderful things about living in Zurich is that within a mere 2 – 3 hours you can find yourself in a total different surrounding. Going south to Ticino has always been one of my favourite escapes. Still remembering the first time I visited for a business trip many moons ago the magic remains with each subsequent trip.

Last week my hubby and I spent 24 hours down in Ascona. Such a dreamy time we both felt totally rejuvinated even though it was such a short break.

Read on to see where to stay and what to do to make the most of your 24 hours away, but first think about going by train – Swiss trains are so reliable and you don’t have to battle with the traffic…. In 2.5 hours we were in our dream destination!

24 Hours Ticino

We stayed in Hotel Eden Roc in Ascona. Situated right on the lake it’s the perfect place to be for a beautiful lake experience.

Our room…

It was one of their beautiful suites with 2 toilets, huge bathroom and lovely balcony.

Evening mood as we had apero outside…

A sample of what the kitchen prepared for us

Breakfast the next morning filled our every expectation – even prosecco!

Followed by a stroll around the grounds checking out the facilities…

I fell in love with the park like grounds right on the lake.

Pretty Ascona is off to the back.

The pools are fabulous too…this indoor/ outdoor pool is perfect for all weather.

A quick glimpse of the spa area…

Then time for a relaxing boat trip to the Brissago Islands.

If you’re travelling as a group you can charter this boat and ask for the Hotel to provide catering. A delicious picnic prepared in individual glass servings.

Alternatively you can take a short walk into Ascona and catch the public boat from there.

The islands themselves are a real treat – famous for their plants – walking through the gardens is like taking a trip around the world with plants from every continent.

My favourite though was the story about the original owner, his mistresses and how there are statues of each of them up on the roof of the lovely villa. Today the villa serves as both a hotel and restaurant. Amazing place for a wedding!

Back at the Hotel Eden Roc we were visited by their star interior designer Carlo Rampazzi.

An amazing man who claims to have been interior designing from birth. He loves the crazy and experimenting with colours. Stretching the imagination to it’s ultimate limits with his designs and combinations.

Hotel Eden Roc was the perfect playground for him and he certainly used it with several different room styles and interesting seating areas spotted throughout the house. Anyone remotely interested in interior design will be in their full element here.

After which it was time to catch our train back to Zurich…. sitting here in Zurich writing this post I’m simply dreaming of going back soon!

Thank you so much for having us!

Stay tuned for our next trip to a lovely lake in Austria coming up soon!

  1. Your trip to Ticino looks so amazing Yvonne and I love how you got to enjoy all of the views, fine food, and history of the hotel too. Your outfits are so adorable too and I love the fun off-the-shoulder top. You look great as always and I miss those 2 hour trips from Zurich to Ticino.
